Transport safety

Transport safety relates to all measures, including regulation, management and technology development, to provide safe and secure transport. Multiple transport sectors, such as for example the aviation, maritime, or railway transport sector, are regulated by the European Union to protect human lives and property while transporting. Concrete measures are for example the obligation for users of roads to abide with traffic rules or preventing unsafe airlines from operating in the European Union. Next to this, transport safety legislation can include the obligation to report any unsafe occurrences by persons involved in the transport sector. Because of the importance of safe transport, infringements on transport safety legislation can be sanctioned.
