Public health

Public health is a very broad notion which can be defined as the science and art of preventing diseases, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of both private and public actors. This can range from conducting scientific research to educating about health, or assuring that the conditions in which people can be healthy are present. Examples of measures to maintain public health can be the vaccination of adults to prevent the spread of disease or educating people about the risks of alcohol and tobacco. Also legislation with regards to public health exists, such as for example limiting personal contacts to prevent the spreading of a harmful virus.
